HOW DO YOUR SUBSCRIPTIONS WORK?
You have the option to subscribe monthly, or buy prepaid subscriptions of 3 and 6 months. These automatically renew. After your initial order, you will only be billed on the 1st of each month. I also offer single purchases that do not automatically renew.
SHOULD I SUBSCRIBE OR BUY A SINGLE PURCHASE?
Each month there are a limited number of boxes and they often sell out quickly. If you are subscribed, it means your spot is secure every month and you don't need to worry about missing out. If you want to skip a month, you can log into your account and do so. If you're having issues logging in to your account or need assistance, please email me!
Single purchases, are best if you want to pick and choose which boxes to get here and there. But if the boxes sell out you may miss the chance to grab one.
IF I'M SUBSCRIBED CAN I SKIP A MONTH?
Yes, log in to your account, click "Delivery Schedule" and then click "skip" for the appropriate month. Please email me for assistance if needed. *If you're going to do this a lot I suggest you opt for single purchases instead of a subscription as it makes it much easier for me to plan how much inventory to purchase ahead of time for each box!
WHEN CAN I SIGN UP?
I announce through the website, email newsletter and social media when the next box is going to be available (make sure you follow on Instagram especially as that is always where I announce first). Typically you can sign up from the 4th of the month to the last day for a subscription that starts with the following month's box, or until stock lasts.
I CAN'T LOG IN TO MY ACCOUNT, HELP!
Trying to log in and it says that there is no account with your e-mail? The most common reason why this happens is you haven't finished activating your account by setting up a password. An email with activation link goes out when you first start an account, and depending on your filter settings it might have gone into your spam folder. Check there first. If you still don't see it, email me and I can send you another activation link.
WHAT IS A 'THEME'?
Each month a theme for the box will be announced to give you a hint as to what the book will be about or related to. Most of the items in the box will correlate with the theme.
WHAT AGE IS UNICORN CRATE SUITABLE FOR?
At this time Unicorn Crate only features Young Adult Fantasy titles, most of which are rated by the publishers for 14+. But you're never too old to enjoy Unicorn Crate!
*Currently all coupon codes from reps are for 10% off your first month of a new subscription. It will not work on a prepaid 3 or 6 month (those are already discounted). Codes do not work on single purchases or small boxes either.
WHEN DO CRATES SHIP?
Boxes ship in batches around the 20th of each month.
Please make sure that your shipping address is up to date. If you need to make changes to your address, you will need to update this in your account settings by the 27th of the month before (and please delete the old address or else the system may not register the new one!). If you have a 3 month or 6 month prepaid subscription, I will need to update your address manually for you. Please email me at hello [at] theunicorncrate [dot] com
Shipping to the US costs $8 per crate.
Shipping to Canada is $16.95 per crate.
International shipping is $23.95 per crate.
NOTE: I am not responsible for any customs fees that may be incurred on international orders!
*If your account has renewed (your card has been charged) and you do not wish to receive the box(es) that you've paid for, please contact me as soon as possible. I am happy to give refunds for unshipped boxes, but once a box has shipped I cannot give refunds! **Prepaid subscriptions (3-month and 6-month) can only be refunded if you contact me BEFORE the first box in your sequence has shipped.
*I cannot accept returns, regardless of whether the box has been opened or not.
*I do not offer refunds if you receive a book/item that you aren't interested in. Perhaps you know a friend you can gift the item to.
*Keep an eye on the @unicorncrate social media accounts, as well as the newsletter, where I always announce upcoming themes and give hints as to what you can expect from each box.
*If you receive a damaged item, please send me a photo of the damage and I'll will work on getting a replacement for you.
*If your package has been stolen (I am so sorry that happened to you, porch pirates or horrible!) but marked delivered by USPS, you must contact USPS and file a claim to get reimbursed! Unfortunately after packages leave our facility they are no longer under our care but that of USPS.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IN THE BOX?
Each box will have one recently published Young Adult fantasy book (usually hardcover and either a first book in a series or a standalone), 5-6 goodies related to the book, and promotional items such as info on upcoming releases, bookmarks and a signed bookplate whenever possible from the publisher. The Unicorn Crates are lovingly packed and infused with unicorn magic each month! I spend a lot of time selecting the books in advance to make sure they are the very best!
WHAT IF I ALREADY OWN THE BOOK?
I only send books that have been published within the last 4-6 weeks of when the crates ship out, so it is unlikely you will already have it. Unfortunately, if you do happen to have the book, I do not offer refunds as I am unable to return them to the publisher.
HOW ARE THE BOOKS AND GOODIES CHOSEN?
All of the books and goodies are hand selected by me (Naomi). I am the founder and owner of Unicorn Crate and I've been reading and reviewing books for many years. I am also a writer with a MFA in Creative Writing, and have been a fantasy fanatic my entire life. I make sure that the books will be a special read and that the goodies will relate to the theme of the book so that you’ll have a fun and magical experience!
WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE AN ITEM IN THE BOX?
Unfortunately, if you do happen to have an item in the box, I do not offer refunds.
BILLING / PRICING
HOW MUCH DOES UNICORN CRATE COST?
• One Unicorn Crate costs $36.95 + shipping
• A 3-month subscription costs $105.30 (save 5%) + shipping for 3 months
• A 6-month subscription costs $203.96 (save 8%) + shipping for 6 months
All prices are in US Dollars (USD), please make sure you check how much that is in your own currency.
If you purchase a single purchase it means that you will be billed immediately and the amount will be deducted from your account and you will receive that one item. This is a one-time payment, NOT a subscription. Be sure to check on social media for announcements about when we have stock for single purchases.
If you subscribe to a recurring subscription, it means you will have payments automatically deducted from your account each month. You will first be billed on whichever day of the month you subscribe, and then on the 1st of the month moving forward (see example in next section). Your box will be reserved each month and you don’t need to worry about missing out.
a) When you can subscribe?
Every month I announce when spots open for single purchases and subscriptions and it will usually be around 4th-5th of the month – this can vary so make sure to check the website and social media for announcements. These spots will be available until they run out – there are a limited number of crates each month.
Example: Subscription spots for July will open up around the 5th of June as spots open around 5-6 weeks before shipment day (I strive to ship by the 20th of each month... but I am just one person and sometimes there are shipping delays that are out of my control. Please understand if that varies by a day or two!). If you miss the chance to subscribe before spaces fill up, there might be an opportunity to purchase the box as a single purchase after the 1st of the month when subscriptions renew, however, you will not be able to start a subscription. This is because those spots will open up after the renewal/billing day, which in this case would be the 1st of July (our billing day is always the 1st of the month). If you wanted to start a subscription, you would need to wait until the August spots are available for subscriptions.
b) How do payments with subscriptions work?
When you first subscribe, you will be billed for your first month on whichever day you sign up. After that, you will be billed on the 1st of each month for your recurring plan. If you choose a monthly plan, the cost of one box including shipping will be billed on the 1st of every month until you cancel. (i.e. If you sign up for a subscription on April 10th you would be charged at sign up (April 10th) and the next charge will be set to June 1st (since the next billing cycle on May 1st will be skipped because you paid for your May box on April 10th).
If you select a 3 month plan you will be billed for 3 boxes including shipping, and the total will be deducted in one payment (you will pay for 3 months worth of boxes at once). You will be billed every 3 months (4 times per year).
If you select a 6 month plan you will be billed for 6 months including shipping, and the total will be deducted in one payment (you will pay for 6 months worth of boxes at once). You will be billed every 6 months (2 times a year).
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LIFESTYLE CRATE?
During the first five months in business (May-Sept 2017) I offered a lifestyle crate option in addition to the young adult book crate. These were filled with fun unicorn inspired beauty and bath items, accessories, decor, stationery, etc. However, it became quite clear that it was waaay too much for me to create two separate crates each month (just one crate is like working 2+ full-time jobs), so I decided to finally announce that September would be the last month for the lifestyle crates. These were so fun! But for the sake of my sanity and the clarity of my business I will be focusing on the book crates only from now on. If you were one of those early subscribers who bought a lifestyle crate - thank you so much! Update: I've been getting a lot of people telling me they want to the lifestyle crates to continue in some manner, so I am considering a quarterly option. If you are interested please see here.
